My favorite time of the year has arrived! Spending relaxing days at the beach with my husband. Sitting under a beach umbrella and listening to the soothing sound of the waves. We have been perfecting our beach routine. I’d like to share some of our beach bag essentials.
We are all familiar with the usual items to pack for a day at the beach – towels, sunscreen, umbrellas, and so on. However, I have a few additional suggestions based on our experience. We have been adding these items to our beach bag over the years, and we also have a couple of new ones to test out this season.
Don’t forget to pack your favorite book for the beach. Our recent blog post, “Beach Vacation Reading List,” may be worth checking out before you go. You can find it here.

SPF Lip Balm
It’s important to note that our lips are also susceptible to sunburn. Unfortunately, many of us forget to apply sunscreen for protection when we’re spending time outdoors.
Have you ever had sunburned lips? It can be confusing because the symptoms may look like dry lips, but you might also experience swelling, tenderness, redness, blistering, and flaking. Just something to keep in mind next time you spend a lot of time in the sun!
Hand Wipes/Baby Wipes
When we go to the beach, having this item is a must-have. This is especially true if we bring snacks with us! Personally, I don’t enjoy the sensation of sand in my snacks.
And let’s face it, it’s more hygienic to clean your hands off prior to eating a snack. But I am kind of a germaphobe. Lol! So, I will leave that up to you!
Wet Brush or Wide-Tooth Comb
Has anyone else experienced this? You go to the ocean to relax and cool off, but you don’t want to get your hair wet. Suddenly, a massive wave crashes over you and leaves you completely drenched. It’s happened to me before, and I can’t be the only one, right?
It’s a wonderful idea to pack a wet brush or wide-tooth comb in your beach bag, together with some detangler spray or leave-in conditioner. My favorite detangler is Monat Unknot Detangler. I love it because it is lightweight but effective! You can find that here.
Can or Bottle Holder
What is worse than forgetting to bring your favorite drink to the beach? Not being able to keep it cold. I like all my drinks at the beach to be cold right down to my bottled water.
Assorted sizes of cans and bottle holders (koozies) are available to keep your favorite beverages at the right temperature. You’ll never have to endure warm drinks on the beach again!
I came across a fantastic tip recently that involves using a big insulated tumbler with a lid. Start by adding ice to the bottom of the tumbler, then place your can inside it. Add more ice around the can, put the lid on, and insert a straw into the can/tumbler. This method can help keep your drink much colder for longer periods!
Beach Coaster
The chairs we use on the beach have cup holders on the side. However, these holders are not spacious enough to accommodate can holders or large, insulated tumblers. As a result, I often find myself placing my drink in the sand, which inevitably gets covered in sand. Yuck!
Have you heard of beach cup coasters with spikes on the bottom? They are amazing because you can insert them into the sand beside your chair and keep your drink safe from sand. These coasters are not just practical, but also adorable!
Thermal Phone Case
Are you aware that overheating can drain your cell phone’s battery faster? While there are clear waterproof cell phone holders available, they do not provide protection against overheating.
I’m considering adding a thermal phone case to my beach bag this year. It’s designed to keep my phone cool, protect it from sand, and even float if accidentally dropped in water for easy retrieval. You can find that here.
I suggested some items that I believe are essential for your beach bag. Are any of these on your list of must-haves? I find that taking care of the small details can make our beach day much more enjoyable and relaxing. Do you agree?
Please feel free to share your personal beach bag recommendations or let us know which item from our list you intend to use by leaving a comment below.
