I love going for walks as much as the next dog. But recently my mom has got it into her head that I need to wear shoes. Did you know they make shoes for dogs?! Well, they do, and my mom found out. I keep trying to tell her that these paws were made for walking and not with shoes.
It all started when we were watching fun Instagram reels together. We started to see a few dogs wearing shoes. My mom started to think that it might be a good idea for me to wear them too. I know what you are thinking, that’s stupid. That’s what I thought too! In case you missed my blog post about my daily walks and mean neighbors, you can read that here.

Hot Pavement
It turns out she has several reasons why she wants me to wear them and almost none of them are because she wants me to look stupid. Although both my mom and dad were laughing at me while I was struggling to walk in them. I didn’t find it funny at all. You can see the video later in this post! That’s right, they videoed it.
My mom claims that I will be happy that I have shoes when it’s summer because the pavement gets hot. I love our walks and I don’t want to be stuck inside the house this summer. And since we live in Florida the sidewalks get hot all year long. Turns out that if it is just 85 degrees outside the sidewalk can be 105 degrees. That will burn my paws! That’s when she almost started to convince me.
Chemicals
My mom sometimes gets annoying on our walks. I want to go sniffing around in the yards and she tells me no and points to the signs in the yard. She tells me that some of the yards just had chemicals sprayed on them and if I walk in them, I will get the chemicals on my paws. Yuck! I wondered why sometimes when I lick my paws, they taste gross.
Mom said that everyone in our neighborhood has sprinklers that drain onto the sidewalk. So, all those chemicals get drained out onto the sidewalk. Then I get to walk through it with my paws! It’s no wonder a lot of my friends are getting cancer and dying younger and younger.
My Thoughts On Shoes
While I really don’t like wearing shoes and I think I totally look ridiculous… I think my mom might be right and wearing shoes on our walks might be a good idea. I can hear all my friends talking and laughing as I walk by, but little do they know that my mom cares about me. And she doesn’t want me to get sick or my paws to get burnt. They also make some cool shoes!
I am still getting used to wearing them, so my mom puts them on for short spurts of time during my walks and then takes them off. So, when I get home from my walk, she wipes my paws off, so I don’t lick them and get sick. Soon I will be wearing them my entire walk! I will be the talk of the neighborhood!
Do you wear shoes on your walks or when you go out in public? Did you know that the concrete got so hot and that there were so many chemicals on the ground? Let me know in the comments what you think about shoes!

We’ve used doggie shoes before. It’s quite funny to watch. I’ve used on both Nova and Shelby.
Yeah, my mom and dad think it’s funny too! I am still getting used to them. I know my mom wants me to wear them because she loves me. I bet your dogs need them to protect their paws in the mountains!
