What is Double Cleansing and What Are the Benefits?

What is Double Cleansing and What Are the Benefits?

I am sure you have heard about the process of double cleansing your face. But what is double cleansing and what are the benefits? I know you are thinking, please not another step in my skincare routine! It only adds a few minutes to your routine and your skin will thank you. After all, I think my aging skin can use all the help it can get!

Have you ever noticed that you still have makeup or dirt residue after washing your face and then using a cotton round with a toner or essence on it? There is a reason for that! And I am going to explain it to you!

What Do The Experts Have to Say About Double Cleansing?

So, the experts recommend that most people rinse, and repeat! First with an oil-based product and then follow up with a water-based cleanser. An oil-based cleanser helps to remove makeup and sunscreen. That extra step of the oil-based cleanser helps to break down all that oil, makeup, dirt, and sunscreen from the day.

  • Double cleansing is extra helpful for people with oily skin.
  • The extra step helps the water-based cleansers to work, you know do their job!
  • Helps to prep your skin for your other skincare products. Your “replenish” phase of your routine. I did a blog post on skincare product layering that you can read here.

Step By Step Directions For Double Cleansing

  1. Apply oil-based cleanser according to the product directions. Many times, they are applied to dry skin but not always. Gently massage the skin and if you are wearing eye makeup your eyes. Be extra gentle around your eyes. The skin around our eyes is thin and we need to use a very soft touch to prevent pulling and tugging. This step helps to break down the makeup, dirt, oil, and daily sunscreen that is on our skin.
    • My favorite oil-based cleanser is Makeup Vanishing Balm. It is lightweight, melts into the skin, and helps to remove all makeup easily from the skin. And it makes your skin feel smoother, softer, and more hydrated! Click here to check it out!
  2. Rinse with a soft washcloth, biodegradable disposable cloth, or your hands with warm water. Avoid using hot water due to having a drying effect on the skin.
  3. Keep your face damp and apply your water-based cleanser. Massage gently into your skin.
  4. Rinse with warm water and gently pat your skin dry.
  5. Apply your “Replenishing” products.

What Are the Benefits of Double Cleansing?

  • It can remove more impurities than just a single washing can.
  • It allows your skincare products to penetrate more thoroughly.
  • Allows your skin to look brighter.
  • Removes all traces of makeup effectively.
  • Cleanses without stripping the skin.
  • Fewer breakouts.

Tips & Questions Answered

A common question is: Should I double cleanse both in the morning and at night? The answer for most people is no. You typically only need to double cleanse in the evening before going to bed to remove makeup, dirt, oil, and daily sunscreen from your day. Overwashing can be damaging. It can cause excessive dryness, skin irritation, and breakdown of the skin barrier. So, we don’t want to overwash our skin.

Do I have to use an oil-based cleanser? No, a lot of people use Micellar water for their “1st wash”. Micellar water helps to remove makeup, dirt, and oil. Typically, people with sensitive or dry skin use Micellar water. Be sure to always follow up with a cleaner after using Micellar water because it does not totally cleanse your skin.

Always use products based on your skin type. Our skin type can change over time also. So maybe you had oily skin in your 20s and 30s but now in your 40s or 50s, your skin is dry. This can be totally normal. If you aren’t sure what your skin type is I did a blog post to help you figure that out! You can read that here.

So, are you currently double cleansing? If not, are you going to give it a try? Believe it or not, it doesn’t add much time to your evening routine. Just a few minutes! It is well worth it especially as we age. Not removing all traces of makeup at night can contribute to premature aging!  Please share your thoughts about it below in the comments!

One of my favorite places to be. There is something about a palm tree that is just soothing to me, I'm not sure what it is. Pair them with the ocean and sand and life can't get much better.
God's creations never cease to amaze me. I hope this Monday starts you off with a great week.
Are you seeing signs of spring where you are yet? Believe it or not, our pollen is crazy right now!

Have you ever been in a situation where you don't have the right words? An arrow prayer is a quick prayer asking for guidance, help, or maybe the right words to use at the moment.
God is always there, just waiting to be asked to help you. 🤍 Good times & bad.

This is pretty self-explanatory but like my mom used to say, "you are like the people you surround yourself with". The best people can wind up in bad situations because they get caught up hanging out with the wrong crowd.
It can be a fine line between wanting to help someone and getting sucked up into a bad way of living. Keeping God at the center is a good way to begin and stay on the right path.
Happy Sunday friends 🤍

Happy Monday friends. I hope you have sunshine where you are. I think that is the best part about living in Florida, there are more sunny days than not! ☀️ Our problems just seem easier to manage when the sun is shining. It's a gift from God.
If you are struggling today, I hope you are able to catch a few rays of sunshine to help wash them away. Remember, keep looking up. 🙏
Are you on team rainy days or sunshine?

Having a tough time lately? It's a rough world out there! I know the Bible gets a bad rap but if you take the time to read it, it actually gives you a "roadmap" on how to help live your life. You know, 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝓅𝒶𝓉𝒽 for you to follow! And Jesus was pretty clever in some of his storytelling (parables).
Just remember, you are never alone and are loved. 🤍

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈𝐬 𝐈𝐭 𝐒𝐨 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬?
I have learned over this past year that we cannot place our expectations on others. Or be disappointed when they don’t act in a way that we would.
I have been guilty of doing this in the past. Gossiping is human nature, and we have to make a concerted effort not to participate in it. But there is gossip and then there is listening to others tell untruths about someone that isn’t correct. How can we change this in ourselves? Because it doesn’t feel great when it happens to us. And it shouldn’t feel great when you do it to someone else.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝟏𝟔:𝟐𝟖– 𝘈 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘦; 𝘨𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘱 𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴.
When a stranger believes something that has been said about us it can be easier to not let it bother us. But when it is someone that we place value on, family or a close friend, it can sting. Often it is the people closest to us that believe lies told by the enemy. But why?
So today over on 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐠 we are talking about the question, why is it so easy to believe the worst in others? You can find the link in my profile! 🔗

I think I love the look of coastal decor because it is always so bright & airy. It just makes you want to smile and go either to the beach or outside to get some fresh air! ☀️
I love the front console table that we found. It has rattan doors on the front for a slight casual but polished look. This is the other lamp that goes with my set from Lamps Plus. I love the aqua/blue color. They are even prettier in person.
